Ouellette Bros. Timeline
Ouellette Bros. has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of our community.
The following timeline highlights the major milestones in our growth and diversification:
Business operations moved to Yves Ouellette's property on the lake. Ouellette Bros. Construction expanded into residential and commercial construction, while the cabinetry and paint business continued to operate from the home-based shop. Local residents began purchasing lumber and building materials directly from the site.
Early 1975sSeven acres of property were purchased along Highway 27 outside of Fort St. James. Construction began on Units A, B, and C.
Early 1990sUnit C was completed and officially opened as Ouellette Bros. Building Supplies Ltd., establishing its own identity as a full-service building supply retailer.
1999Yves Ouellette made Jonathan Ouellette a part owner of the business, beginning the transition to the next generation of leadership.
2000Joined Castle Building Centres Group Ltd., expanding purchasing power and product availability and strengthening our ability to compete in the marketplace.
2006Established Ouellette Bros. Enterprises to provide plumbing, heating, and geothermal services. During this time, Ouellette Bros. Building Supplies also offered WETT inspections, providing an additional specialized service to customers within our community.
2008Jonathan Ouellette joined the business full-time.
2010Jonathan became Manager of Ouellette Bros. Building Supplies and introduced a Garden Centre, providing customers with gardening products and outdoor living essentials.
2011Implemented Windward System Five, transitioning from handwritten receipts and manual processes to an integrated point-of-sale and inventory management system.
2012Launched the first Ouellette Bros. Building Supplies website. That same year, we officially became a Benjamin Moore Paint dealer.
2013Yves Ouellette began stepping away from the day-to-day operations of the building supply business to focus more on Ouellette Bros. Construction. The business also added GE and Moffat appliances.
2014Added Serta mattresses to our product lineup.
2015Introduced a greenhouse operation.
2016Developed "Brickland," a dedicated landscaping and hardscape department.
2019Expanded the size of the greenhouse to meet increasing customer demand.
2020Undertook major renovations including expanded pet and home departments, heating and chimney areas, relocating the front entrance, and developing the new Garden, Bulk & Feed Centre.
2023-2025Ouellette Bros. Enterprises merged back into Ouellette Bros. Construction.
2024Today, Ouellette Bros. Building Supplies continues to reinvest and evolve with one goal in mind: providing Fort St. James and the surrounding area with quality products, knowledgeable service, and a shopping experience that meets the needs of our community close to home.
